Birds can sing. They can dance. And they may even experience an emotional response to music similar to humans.
A new study from Emory University in Atlanta found that when birds hear birdsong, their brains show activity similar to that seen in humans when they listen to music.
“We found that the same neural reward system is activated in female birds in the breeding state that are listening to male birdsong, and in people listening to music that they like,” Sarah Earp, an Emory undergraduate who co-authored the study with neuroscientist Dr. Donna Maney, said in a written statement.

Before 2008, everything I did had something to do with mental health. I’m a neuroscientist, and I was all about understanding how we create our perception of reality, and understanding what’s going on in the brains of people who experience hallucination and delusion.
But then I gave a TEDTalk about my own experience with stroke. Within weeks of delivering that talk in 2008, my life changed and the repercussions still resonate loudly in my world. My book, My Stroke of Insight, has been translated into 30 languages. Time and Oprah’s Soul Series came calling.

Philip Roth, the famous American novelist, has written his last book. That is, according to an interview published last month in the French magazine Les inRocks.
The Pulitzer Prize, National Humanities Medal and twice National Book Award-winning writer remains one of the American favorites to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, and was this year awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature by the Spanish Royal Family.

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush
aside without looking at the young soul within. We will all, one day, be there, too!
The best and most beautiful things of this world can’t be seen or touched.
They must be felt by the heart!

Read any of Edgar Allan Poe’s tales and it won’t take long for you to realize that the guy’s writing tended towards the twisted and the creepy.
But did you know that Poe had the ability to predict the future? All right, maybe that’s going a little too far, but he did write a story that very closely resembles an event that took place 46 years after he wrote it.
