New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has summoned representatives of the four largest smartphone makers to a summit next week where he plans to press them on their failure to address soaring thefts of their products.
Schneiderman, along with San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon, will question Apple, Google, Samsung and Microsoft officials in New York about why they have not yet developed technology that renders stolen mobile devices inoperable, eliminating the incentive for theft.
About 1.6 million Americans had their smartphones stolen last year, according to Gascon, and around 40 percent of robberies in major cities now involve mobile devices, according to the Federal Communications Commission.

Angelina Jolie was glowing on the red carpet today (June 2) as she made her first public appearance since revealing her decision to undergo a double mastectomy last month.
Dressed in a custom black Saint Laurent gown, the actress, 37, joined her fiance Brad Pitt, 49, at the premiere of his new film “World War Z” at the Empire Leicester Square in London. The couple was all smiles as they posed for photos, looking as captivated with each other as ever.
On May 14, Jolie announced that she had been diagnosed with a mutated BRCA1 gene predisposing her to cancer. She revealed she had undergone a preventive mastectomy on Feb. 16 and reconstructive surgery on April 27 in an op-ed in the New York Times.
“I do not feel any less of a woman,” she wrote. “I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity.”

Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was found dead in her Juhu apartment on Monday night in an apparent suicide, according to the Times of India. TV reports indicate that the 25-year-old star hanged herself, though a suicide note has not yet been found.
Originally known as Nafisa Khan, the American-born actress was raised in London before her bold entry into film, starring opposite the legendary Amitabh Bachchan in the controversial movie “Nishabd,” loosely based on Nabokov’s “Lolita.” She was also praised for her starring roles in “Ghajini,” alongside Aamir Khan and “Housefull,” with Akshay Kumar.

I must confess that I am very conflicted about adding to the river of words that have been written about Angelina Jolie’s decision to undergo a risk-reducing (preventive) mastectomy. She made a difficult choice, and has discussed that choice with power and grace, in the hope of helping other women. Both the choice and the disclosure took a lot of courage. Full stop. But the power of her celebrity, and the extensive media coverage of her decision, may wind up making things more difficult for some women with BRCA1 or 2 mutations.
I have been involved in research in this area for 17 years, since shortly after BRCA1 and BRCA2 were discovered, and I honestly have no idea what I would do if I were a woman faced with this decision. Imagine the situation. You go to talk to a health care provider because you have a family history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer. Hopefully, you have genetic counseling (which not everyone gets, although they should), and learn about genetics for an hour or so. If it looks like there’s a meaningful chance that genetic testing could be informative, you then give a blood sample or spit in a tube.

Angelina Jolie is an American actress, film director, and screenwriter. She has received an Academy Award, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards, and was named Hollywood’s highest-paid actress by Forbes in 2009 and 2011.
Tony Stark may be a fictional character, but not everything in the “Iron Man” films is completely outside the realm of possibility.
At least that much has been demonstrated by Solar System Express (Sol-X) and Juxtopia LLC, two tech startups that have collaborated to create a real-life “Iron Man” suit, which could be used for skydiving from space. Wow.
Conceived in 2011, the RL Mark VI Space Diving suit would allow thrill-seekers to skydive from up to 62 miles above the earth’s surface — around the edge of space — and land safely, using thrusters instead of a parachute.

An eastern Pennsylvania woman who fatally stabbed her fiance on their wedding day – and then apparently could not comprehend that he had died – was convicted of first-degree murder on Thursday.
Jurors found Na Cola Franklin, 32, guilty after deliberating about three hours in Lehigh County Court. She could get life in prison when she is sentenced July 16. Her attorney said an appeal is likely.
Prosecutors say Franklin and 36-year-old Billy Brewster got into the deadly argument on Aug. 11 around 2 a.m. in their Whitehall Township apartment. They were scheduled to be married at 10 a.m. in neighboring Allentown.
At her arraignment that night, Franklin appeared distraught and confused to learn Brewster was dead, telling the judge, “You got to check again!”

During season 9 of “So You Think You Can Dance,” dancer Hampton Williams wowed judges and America with his “exorcist” style audition. His performance was moving, but Williams bowed out of the competition when other choreography proved too difficult.
Williams returned this season, bringing a new element to tryouts — his 4-year-old daughter. The adorable and talented little girl performed an astounding routine with Dad (and mom!). Spoiler alert: all three were sent straight to Vegas.
