NASHVILLE, Tenn. (RNS) Eric and Ruth Brown believe nothing about daughter Pearl Joy’s life is a mistake.

They say God gave Pearl her bright red hair and wide blue eyes, as well as the genetic disorder that created a cleft in her upper lip and caused her brain’s development to stall in the first weeks in the womb.

LONDON — Emergency workers who needed to take an obese teenager from her home to a hospital in Wales had to break through a wall of the residence to get her out and into an ambulance, officials said Friday.

Georgia Davis weighed 60 stone, or 840 pounds,

when emergency workers cut her out of her UK

home, using scaffolding to lower her to the ground

floor to go to the doctor.

X-37B Launch: Military’s Secret Space Plane Mission Now Set To Begin In Mid-November

The U.S. Air Force’s launch of the next secret mission by its unmanned X-37B space plane has been officially delayed to mid-November.

The upcoming X -37B space plane mystery mission, also known as Orbital Test Vehicle-3 (OTV-3), was slated to blast off atop an Atlas 5 rocket on Oct. 25 from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The liftoff is now scheduled for Nov. 13, according to ULA.

New York University physicists David Ruffner and David Grier have proposed how a working tractor beam might be assembled, according to a written statement. (For those who aren’t fans of the science fiction franchise, a tractor beam is a device that uses energy to pull an object toward itself.)

‘Swedish Stonehenge:’ Ancient Tomb Found At ‘Ales Stenar’ Site May Have Belonged To Chieftain

A 5,500-year-old tomb possibly belonging to a Stone Age chieftain has been unearthed at a megalithic monument in the shape of a ship called the Ale’s Stenar (Ale’s Stones). The tomb, in Sweden, was likely robbed of stones to build the Viking-era ship monument.

“We found traces — mostly imprints — of large boulders,” said lead archaeologist Bengst Söderberg of the Swedish National Heritage Board. “So my conviction is that some of the stones at least, they are standing on the ship setting.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A mother and her two toddlers were found violently slain inside their home in suburban Sacramento Tuesday afternoon, sending police scrambling for leads in the residential neighborhood. A 6 month-old infant was later found crying inside a crib in the back of the house, authorities said.

GDP: US Economy Grew at 2 Percent in 3rd Quarter

The nation’s economy continued to expand in the third quarter, rising at a better-than-expected annualized rate of 2 percent, the Commerce Department said this morning.

The Gross Domestic Product numbers are preliminary and will be adjusted but economists had expected a rate of 1.8 percent for the period. GDP rose at a 1.3 percent rate in the second quarter.  It’s the first back-to-back quarters 2 percent or lower since the U.S.
